Flying Dog Week: Introducing The FEAR, An Imperial Pumpkin Ale

FANTASTIC logo artwork from the inimitable Ralph Steadman.

This one has been in the works for a while. Its almost cliche but as a brewery you almost have to create a pumpkin ale. As a beer consumer I have to admit I don't enjoy most pumpkin ales, but its impossible to ignore just how well they sell. Consumers simply go crazy for them.

So, Flying Dog may have been a longtime holdout but maybe there's a payoff to that wait with this imperial release checking in at 9% ABV. Look for it to hit the market the final week of September. There are plans to potentially sell select firkins of The Fear enclosed in locally sourced Jack-o-Lanterns, making it a "pumpkin firkin".

The name has ties to some of Hunter S. Thompson's writings as well as it being a bit of an inside joke by marketing guru Eric Minning. Regardless it fits the season well. Trick or treat!

The fine print:

Why is there only one time of year -- as goblins, ghouls, and ghosts frolic on front lawns -- when we embrace THE FEAR? At all other times, THE FEAR dominates us, controls us, and prevents us from greatness. What is there to THE FEAR? Disagreement? Criticism? Humiliation? Whatever THE FEAR is that consumes you, embrace it, along with this Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Only then will the true artist in you rise up. 9% ABV. 12 oz. bottles.
